The perfect time for it, right? Just before our second anatomy exam. All my roomies and I are stuck inside, likely the entire day, due to the weather outside. We got a huge ice storm that dumped about an inch of solid ice. Don't want to risk going anywhere, even though I desperately need to go to the anatomy lab to study for the practical monday. I feel like I've prepped enough for the written part. We have two more exams this week, so I guess I can get started studying for those, but they aren't until mid-week.
Not a ton has been going on here recently. This block is still hellacious. I just want it to be done and over with. We've had about 3 exams a week since the second week of class. This week we have 4. I think then it dies down a bit (at least until finals week at the end of February). Only 4 more weeks of this block to go- we are halfway done!
Sweet Bailee also went back to the rescue a week ago. She is in good hands and will find a great home, I know. I was a bit heartbroken, but I've done alright. I know it was the right choice all-around. Beamer seems his usual, normal self, so he doesn't really seem affected by it. I've been in touch with a few local breeders around (I WISH searching for a puppy) to see if any had available older adults to place. I talked with one near Kansas City and she has been SUPER nice and helpful. She said she'd keep an ear out for any for me. We talked on the phone for a good 20 minutes one day. I really would love to have a puppy right now, but it just is not going to be fair to the puppy to be home alone for such long hours. Plus, I don't have time for training classes right now like I did with Beamer. So, my search has lead me to realize that I can have a dog with a great temperament, health, and longevity if a breeder decides to place one of their dogs. It could be for various reasons- maybe didn't pass health clearances (mild hip dysplasia- which is completely manageable), a retired female, a show prospect that didn't quite work out... things happen. It doesn't happen often, though, so that's why I've gotten some feelers out to a few people. I'm not really in any kind of rush at the moment. I just want the right dog for me, my schedule, and Beamer.
In other news, I've entered Beamer boy in some upcoming trials with the Columbia Kennel Club (that I'm apart of) in early march. We shouldn't have much going on that weekend since finals were at the end of February. We are competing in 3 rally trials over a two day weekend in attempt to earn our RE title (all in one weekend!) I have no doubt that he can do it. We just need to practice our jumping skills before then (since has has a hesitation with jumping, for some reason). I've also signed him up for a heart and eye clinic (finally!!) I've been wanting to do it since he was about a year, but never had the chance. It is about $65 total for both- it will be nice to have peace of mind with some things in the breed. Eyes should be done yearly, so I'll be sure to continue doing that. Heart just needs to be done once after 1 year of age.
My mom is also planning on flying out to visit me for part of my spring break- I'm so excited!! I still miss her a ton every day but it will be nice when she comes out and I won't have too many obligations. She gets in on a Friday evening and leaves Tuesday afternoon- so we have plenty of time to catch up (though of course we talk every day). Spring break for us isn't until the end of March.
Alright, I guess I had better wrap this up! I'm still trying to figure out my summer plans. My Veterinary Research Scholars Program (VRSP) application has been turned in and my mentor turned in her recommendation. I should hear about that in a few weeks. I also had one phone interview for the Banfield student job program- not something I want to do this summer, but always good to have a backup. I ideally want to do it next summer at home- since there is one that participates about 10 minutes from my dad's house.
